29th June – 8th July (transfered from document)
Good weather mixed with dull weather, about 10-14 degrees.
Have worked a lot with the rorbu we are building. Now we have gotten all isolation and panel in the ceiling in place!

28th June (transfered from document)
Dull weather, about 8 degrees.
Was out fishing at Haraldsskallen (north side of Nappstraumen), but didn’t get any fish there.
We were also on the lookout for the killer whales, but didn’t see any of them either.
Went to another place nearby which worked last summer, and there we were able to get some cod. Finally, fresh cod dinner! 🙂
26th June (transfered from document)
Good weather, about 8 degrees.
Saw a strange small animal walking over the street on the way home from Leknes by car. First thought was that it was a small squirrel, but we’re not sure they exist this far up north. It didn’t move like a rat, and was too small to be of of the bigger animals. My guess is a baby ferret (iller) or mink kind of animal. The strange thing was the movement; that it was trotting like a horse rather than jumping in some way, with a quite big tail for the small animal. Time might tell what it was we saw, if we get the chance to see it again.
25th June (transfered from document)
Dull weather, about 10 degrees.
Went out to fish in the close area (as the tank in the boat is starting to get more empty after we have forgotten to buy more gas when in Leknes for a couple of times), but was not so successful today either. Got a very small cod, which we threw back. I start to get tempted to fish for plaice (rödspätta) instead for a while, but then we need to get shrimps as bait, something we don’t have yet.
Coming in to land, we heard that some tourists had seen killer whales at, this time, the north side of Nappstraumen. Missed by me once again. Soon I hope to see them too. Just need to get more gas to go further out with the boat. Hopefully they will stay around for some more time. After all, we are supposed to be here the whole summer this year to finish working on the interior of the rorbu we are building.
Some days ago some tourists were asking about if we had caught anglerfish (breiflabb / marulk) yet in Lofoten, but we haven’t. Have probably not been out with the boat far enough to fish at the right depth for the anglerfish (or this is what we have heard gives higher chance of catching one).
Surprisingly enough, some of the tourists sees a small one close to the boat parking lots at not deeper than 3-4 meters. A fisherman gets it up to take a photo, and then let it back to it’s natural habitat, the sea. So now also an anglerfish has been seen in the Skreda area. 🙂
We can only guess what made this fish get so lost in the sea. Perhaps the killer whales have scared it?

Nice weather, about 12 degrees.
During a midday walk at the old Skreda street, I spy after something you think you see now and then when it is not. Something that can be a wave hitting a underwater hill or just a strange wave… or something more interesting.
Lucky enough it appeared to be what I thought: a nise (artic dolphin), and not the more boring one.
This time I had the phone up in time to both get a picture of the fin and to video tape the fin coming up several times after each other. What was suprising is that the nise appeared very close to land, probably only 30 meters out.
When I came back and showed the video to Johan I had the idea it could be one small nise, when Johan thought it is probably two nises swimming close to each other.
Later we also heard that some of the tourists at the fishing camp had seen killer whales at the south side of Nappstraumen. Something I long to see, as I have not seen them yet. My video of nise(s) sounded like not so cool anymore, comparing to that vision. 😉
Johan went out with the boat nearby and got some small cods, perfect lunch fishes!

About 8 degrees.
Tried to get some fish in the close area of Nappstraumen, but wasn’t successful today, despite the new, really good, sonar we have gotten for the boat this year. We ended up going to the pizzeria in Leknes instead.
On the other hand; we got two crabs over the night, and one of them was really big. They tasted marvellous. 🙂
21th June (appr.) (transfered from document)
Dull weather, about 8 degrees.
Looking out the window from the rorbu I see a very big bird flying back and forth over the Nappstraumen. It’s not a sea eagle, that’s for sure. It is such a distance it is hard to see good how it looks, but it is grey. Considering we have seen a cormorant (skarv) at a rocky islet nearby while passing with the boat a previous year, I decide it must be a cormorant.
20th June (appr.) (transfered from document)
Nice weather, about 8 degrees.
During a walk at the old Skreda street, we see something strange swimming next to some birds in the sea in Nappstraumen. We figure it must be an otter. We used to see an otter a previous year close to the same area. Unfortunately we didn’t get the camera up fast enough to get a good picture.
19th June (transfered from document)
Nice weather, about 8 degrees.
We and the Swedish fishing guides (from the fishing camp “Nordic Sea Angling”) with relatives are doing our first try to set a new standard for Skreda when it comes to celebrate also the Swedish Midsummer. This day is always celebrated on the Friday closest to the summer solstice day (sommarsolståndet), in difference to the Norwegian Midsummer, which is always celebrated on the summer solstice day, whenever it will be.
As we didn’t have any Swedish Midsummer pole and the fishing guides woke up late after a long night fishing, we skipped this part of the celebration and went straight to the dinner with ”sill” (marinated herring) and potatoes as starter (is usually eaten at lunch time in Sweden) and meat barbeque as main course. To this we had ”nubbe” (flavored alcohol), beer and wine. During the intake of this we could surprise the passing Norwegians with “nubbe” songs of better or worse content.
Dessert had of course to be the classical strawberries with whipped cream. We were surprised to see strawberries so cheap in Norway, but perhaps Norwegians also eat strawberries at their midsummer so it is the same classic for them as for us?
I have seen there are already some blogs around, but didn’t feel they give the beautiful Skreda real justice.
They have a company focus, with main focus on fishing.
There are so much more to do in Skreda than fishing, so I wanted to start a blog for all the nature lovers out there, and not only for the hard core fishermen/women.
My intention is to give all of you info about the happenings in Skreda like:
What’s the catch for us in doing this?
So for all people interested in Skreda and Lofoten,
Please keep on reading! 🙂
