25th June (transfered from document)
Dull weather, about 10 degrees.
Went out to fish in the close area (as the tank in the boat is starting to get more empty after we have forgotten to buy more gas when in Leknes for a couple of times), but was not so successful today either. Got a very small cod, which we threw back. I start to get tempted to fish for plaice (rödspätta) instead for a while, but then we need to get shrimps as bait, something we don’t have yet.
Coming in to land, we heard that some tourists had seen killer whales at, this time, the north side of Nappstraumen. Missed by me once again. Soon I hope to see them too. Just need to get more gas to go further out with the boat. Hopefully they will stay around for some more time. After all, we are supposed to be here the whole summer this year to finish working on the interior of the rorbu we are building.
Some days ago some tourists were asking about if we had caught anglerfish (breiflabb / marulk) yet in Lofoten, but we haven’t. Have probably not been out with the boat far enough to fish at the right depth for the anglerfish (or this is what we have heard gives higher chance of catching one).
Surprisingly enough, some of the tourists sees a small one close to the boat parking lots at not deeper than 3-4 meters. A fisherman gets it up to take a photo, and then let it back to it’s natural habitat, the sea. So now also an anglerfish has been seen in the Skreda area. 🙂
We can only guess what made this fish get so lost in the sea. Perhaps the killer whales have scared it?
