Halibut and saithe night fishing at Haraldsskallen

14th July (transfered from document)

Good weather mixed with dull, about 17 degrees.

Continued working on the rorbu frontage.

In the evening Johan went out with some guys from the Nordic Sea Angling camp for early night halibut fishing at Haraldsskallen at about 9 pm.
Will hear tomorrow how it went; if successful I will add a picture or two. 🙂

Update:
There was no life at all at Haraldsskallen (not even a bite by saithe), so 6-7 other places were tried as well for halibut.
Only one of the fisherman got a bite once, so the fishing ended quite early at 1 am.

Strange sound heard in the sky

9th July (transfered from document)

Dull weather, about 14 degrees.

All of a sudden, a strange sound was heard in the sky. It sounded like a helicopter, and that was exactly what it was. Went out and saw it land in Skreda just a bit away from the rorbu we are building.

After talking with the fishing camp we got to know they had some Russian guests this week. Before we have only heard about some guests coming with helicopter. Now we have seen it.

Funny thing is that the helicopter stayed in Skreda. It was not rented, but owned by one of the guests. We can only wonder how it got to Norway. If it was flown the whole way to be used in Lofoten (not so likely considering the costs, but who knows?) or if someone had to get it here in advance (how to get a helicopter that long distance without flying it?) before the most important guest arrived.

Observe that all the land close to the sea around the helicopter is for sale.

Started making inner walls at the upper floor in the rorbu.

Isolation and ceiling panel in rorbu – check!

29th June – 8th July (transfered from document)

Good weather mixed with dull weather, about 10-14 degrees.

Have worked a lot with the rorbu we are building. Now we have gotten all isolation and panel in the ceiling in place!

Swedish Midsummer Eve

19th June (transfered from document)

Nice weather, about 8 degrees.

We and the Swedish fishing guides (from the fishing camp “Nordic Sea Angling”) with relatives are doing our first try to set a new standard for Skreda when it comes to celebrate also the Swedish Midsummer. This day is always celebrated on the Friday closest to the summer solstice day (sommarsolstĂĄndet), in difference to the Norwegian Midsummer, which is always celebrated on the summer solstice day, whenever it will be.

As we didn’t have any Swedish Midsummer pole and the fishing guides woke up late after a long night fishing, we skipped this part of the celebration and went straight to the dinner with ”sill” (marinated herring) and potatoes as starter (is usually eaten at lunch time in Sweden) and meat barbeque as main course. To this we had ”nubbe” (flavored alcohol), beer and wine. During the intake of this we could surprise the passing Norwegians with “nubbe” songs of better or worse content.

Dessert had of course to be the classical strawberries with whipped cream. We were surprised to see strawberries so cheap in Norway, but perhaps Norwegians also eat strawberries at their midsummer so it is the same classic for them as for us?
